This & That

As of this weekend I’m completely done The Commonwealth Saga, having read my way enthusiastically through all 1900+ pages of Pandora’s Star and Judas Unchained (print equivalent). It was a particularly wild ride, filled with a ton of different perspectives, factions, environments, motives, twists, and mentions of “enzyme-bonded concrete.” Only that last one was a bit of a negative, and to be honest it seemed to be toned down in the second book – of which I was quite appreciative. 😛

A hardcore sci-fi space opera, The Commonwealth Saga was every bit worth the read. Like The Expanse and Takeshi Kovacs series’ before it, I believe it has shown me new ground I hadn’t considered. It opened a door that I couldn’t close, even if I wanted to.

It also may have led me towards my latest idea…

Yep, I’ve got a new idea(!) – and it’s a doozy. Strong, clingy, and relentless (much like the idea for my first book), this seed of something larger has already led to a few thousand words of intriguing story, and will in all confidence lead to something more. This might even be book material, if all continues on as it has so far. I really hope it does.

Speaking of book material, I’ve picked up The Dreaming Void as my next read; another title from Commonwealth Saga author Peter F. Hamilton, and the first part of a trilogy. I haven’t cracked it open yet, but I plan to. Maybe a bit more writing first…

So, back to the pages of something I go. I’ll keep you updated. 😉
